Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown proved a dynamic duo in the sci-fi adventure The Electric State, which topped the English films chart this week with 25.2 million views. The movie, Brown’s third No. 1 film debut (following Enola Holmes 2 and Damsel), electrified worldwide, too, landing in the Top 10 in all countries (and No. 1 in 47 of them).
Adolescence, the harrowing crime drama about a teenage boy accused of murder, also received high marks. The UK limited series, praised as a “must watch” and “the closest thing to TV perfection in decades” by critics, debuted at No. 1 in English TV with 24.3 million views, and reached the No. 1 spot in 71 countries.
Plus, the espionage flick Back in Action — which reunites Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx — hit a major milestone, cracking the Most Popular Films list at No. 8 with 138.3 million views.
Fans craved even more drama: Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black, which has been renewed for a second season, rose to No. 4 in English TV (3.9 million views); the Colombian series Medusa claimed No. 1 in non-English TV for the second consecutive week (6.1 million views); and the Italian limited series The Leopard held strong at No. 4 in non-English TV (2.8 million views).
Viewers also sought laughs from the Mindy Kaling comedy Running Point — starring Kate Hudson and set to return for Season 2 — which scored the No. 2 spot in English TV (6 million views), and fell for the Korean romance When Life Gives You Tangerines, which had plenty of juice at No. 2 in non-English TV (6 million views).
Over in action and thrillers, the limited series Zero Day, starring Robert De Niro as a former president investigating a deadly cyberattack, ranked third in English TV (4.4 million views). Meanwhile, the German drama-thriller Delicious devoured the top spot in non-English films (9.9 million views), and the Mexican action-thriller Counterattack landed at No. 2 in non-English films (8.5 million views).
