Seth Rogen's FX Comedy 'Singularity' Adds Michelle Buteau

Client: Michelle Buteau - Talent Date: 04-19-2017

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's FX comedy Singularity is filling out its cast.

Michelle Buteau has joined the pilot, which stars Damon Wayans Jr. as a guy who seeks out all the pleasures technology has to offer in a future world. Buteau, who has had parts in Broad City and Key and Peele, will play Wayans' girlfriend, Nancy. She is described as an opinionated and outspoken woman who knows what she wants and liberally uses technology to get it.

The pilot, which was picked up by FX in August after a multiple-network bidding war, takes place in a future where where artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence, resulting in profound changes to society. Wayans' lead character of Doug is a guy who loves to be in the moment and is often dressed in Yeezy street wear — and contrary to some, he's happily reliant on AI.

The project is based on an original idea from Silicon Valley's Sonny Lee, who will pen the script for the comedy and executive produce alongside Rogen and Goldberg via their production company Point Grey.

If Singularity is ordered to series, it would be Rogen and Goldberg's third television project, following AMC's comic book adaptation Preacher and Hulu's upcoming series Future Man, starring Josh Hutcherson.

Buteau is repped by CAA, Mosaic and Bradley Garrett at Cohen Gardner.
